The Record highlighted Stockton2020 on the Opinion Page yesterday. Here’s a blurb:
The members of Stockton2020, a youth-based advocacy organization, are even more ambitious.
They’ve suggested that a world-class library should be built in downtown Stockton.
They’ll present their proposal to the Downtown Stockton Alliance’s board of directors at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting, at 343 E. Main St., is open to the public.
Their premise is that a visually appealing state-of-the art public library can be a cultural and literary source of pride, communication and connection for the community.
Natalie Rencher, director of library services for the city-county system, shares their visionary concept that libraries can be community centers and gathering places as well as repositories of knowledge.
Library administrators, city leaders, members of organizations such as San Joaquin A+ and Stockton2020, educators and families must continue to make literacy, reading and learning their highest priorities.
